The Vayu Unisex Jacket is a special, limited edition piece designed with Emma Hakansson, founder and director of Collective Fashion Justice. It is Jiwya’s take on reimagining puffer jackets devoid of plastics and animal materials, yet warm for any weather.
Vayu, with its burst of colour goes perfectly with chique cocktail dresses or narrow pants on a cold, winter evening. It is made of indigenous rainfed cotton, handspun into cosy and exquisite Khadi.
Emma, with her move to Copenhagen, wanted to explore alternatives to down feather in warm jackets. We suggested using cotton linters and one of our signature weaves – that fills the waste cotton linters while weaving itself, a remarkable style –Sujani – designed for warmth in the north-western India. The weave style dates back to 400 years ago, and has been revived by us to reimagine puffer jackets.
Emma’s chosen colours were maroon and indigo, which we dyed with plant-indigo and madder plants on rainfed Khadi (indigenous cotton). A plain weave handloom in indigo colour as well supports the trims and cuffs, while coconut shell buttons become enclosures.
To, quite literally, wear your ethos, the words - ‘The Future of Fashion is Plant Based’ are hand embroidered on the cuffs!
Here's Emma, sporting the jacket as a private guest at Jiwya’s London Fashion Week SS26 show.
Part of the proceeds will go to Collective Fashion Justice, to support their pathbreaking ground work to remove animals from fashion supply chain.
The entire piece is handspun, hand-woven, and dyed with plant-colours, giving it the rare look of raw extravagance. It's a limited edition couture, made only on order.

Clothes should be bespoke – not made in factories, replicated in thousands, blending in with millions. But clothes should also be versatile – suited to your mood, your special occasion, your day out, or your glamorous evening event. They should fit you, you shouldn’t have to fit them.
And that’s your Jiwya piece. Handmade and unique, but a fit for the much-awaited vacation, that day out that you’ve been looking forward to, the important dinner event, or a brunch with old friends.
